James Hyde
I’m James Hyde, a composer and singer-songwriter from Manchester, currently completing a master’s in composition at Salford University. My musical interests span across genres – whether I’m writing for a full orchestra or a disco band, I approach every project with the same passion and creative drive. While exploring a wide spectrum of styles, including funk, rock, indie, and pop, my work maintains a lyrical and narrative focus, influenced by the folk and classical music I was raised on. As a skilled arranger, I craft cohesive and compelling scores for a variety of instruments, and I’m always eager to push my boundaries by exploring new instruments and notational techniques. Most recently, I completed a programmatic sinfonietta for an 18-piece ensemble of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The 40-minute-long, three-movement piece is based on The Ice Palace by Norwegian author Tarjei Vesaas and reflects the book’s tension and character.
